The off season has been quiet to start as normal, but in the recent weeks things have begun to lift up. You had the Darvish and Snell trades to the Padres, then things got quiet again. But then things began to start happening again after Lindor got traded to the Mets. The most recent move came yesterday when the Padres, Pirates, and Mets all agreed on a trade that included Joe Musgrove to the Padres and Joey Luchessi to the Mets. The Pirates got a bundle of prospects that is lead by outfielder Hudson Head and four other prospects.
With an already great off season going for the Padres, they decided to bulk up once more acquiring former Pirates' ace Joe Musgrove. He will slide in to a rotation that is going to be firing even without Mike Clevinger for 2021. We have seen what Joe Musgrove can do occasionally, but the Padres hope to see his breakout stuff every start. The Padres rotation for 2021 will look like this:
RHP Yu Darvish
LHP Blake Snell
RHP Dinelson Lamet
RHP Joe Musgrove
RHP Chris Paddack
What are the Padres going to do with all that firepower not to mention Mackenzie Gore in the minors still. He can be a breakout stud in the future but the Padres even could use him as bait for a big trade. That is highly unlikely as Paddack would likely be the guy to go, but they could use him to get a big bat or reliever to solidify this massively improved team.
After the season ending sweep against the Dodgers, San Diego took that personally as they have really improved this team to make sure that doesn't happen again soon. They want to be the team to beat in the west and in the entire league in the near future.
